This is the long (and fast) downhill coming into Erendira. At the bottom of this hill the course turns left into a sand wash and heads to the beach.
This is the lower section of the downhill just before entering the sand wash. Pay close attention to the palm tree in this photo.
The idea here is to make a left, then a quick right after the power pole. There is a little bit of a rise right where the course transitions from left to right, and the right turn is a bit off camber. Oh, and again, Don't forget that palm tree.
Here, the Pro Comp Trophy Truck gets a little unweighted over the rise, and can't make the off camber right turn. Coyne slides off the bank which has to be about a 25 foot drop, and cente punches a 25 or 30 foot tall palm tree.
The palm tree does a good job of bringing the truck to a quick stop.
Since this was the most exciting thing to happen so far in Erendira today, the crowd quickly swarmed the truck. Notice the people standing up on the race course where the truck slid off.
Up close of the front end damage to the truck.
The crew initially tried to pull the truck forward off the palm.
Here you can see that the root ball is under the rear diff and the whole truck is pretty much in a much mounted on the palm.
The roots of the palm didn't completely let go. Here you can see the hole where the palm was with a few of the roots still holding on.
